Le prochain séminaire du GAINS aura lieu le 21 janvier 2025 de 10h30 à 12h00 en salle T204. Renaud BOURLÈS (Centrale Marseille & AMSE) présentera "Adoption of AI-based predictive testing: Disentangling acceptability from confidence", co-écrit avec Izabela JELOVAC, Ismaël RAFAI et Bruno VENTELOU.

Abstract: In this paper, we study how AI-based technology reshapes predictive test decision-making by patients. We disentangle pure aversion to AI from lack of confidence towards this new technology by structurally estimating a model of disease testing decision. Using the data of a discrete choice experiment in the field of neuro-degenerative diseases, we measure both confidence and aversion towards AI-based testing compared to biological testing. We find that individuals have more confidence in the quality of the test when AI testing is used, which is consistent with the automation bias effect identified in the literature. We also find that aversion towards AI testing is actually higher than a naive estimate that ignores varying levels of confidence in technologies. We conclude that trust in test accuracy is not sufficient to generate acceptability.
